Roses are among the most attractive and versatile garden plants. Patio roses, shrub roses, ramblers, and climbers are some of the different varieties available. Almost all of them make great cut flowers. Single-flowered roses are excellent pollinators, and certain types are utilized by leafcutter bees to build nests. Most roses require sun and rich soils to thrive, although some can live in partial shade and inferior soils. Every garden has a rose or three

Key criteria for growing roses Most roses flourish in full sunlight.

Roses require rich, moist, yet well-drained soil. Water roses periodically to keep the soil moist but not soggy.

Roses are hungry plants. Mulch annually with organic debris, such as well-rotted animal dung, and consider using a rose feed to increase flowering in the summer.

Prune roses annually to maintain healthy growth, manage shape, and increase flowering. Plant bare-root roses from November to March. Container-grown roses can be planted any time of the year.
